Need a unique, reusable bag for your trips to the grocery store or farmer's market visit? The best way to customize your canvas shopping bags are with this stylish farmer's market stencil from Designer Stencils. Follow along in this fabric painting tutorial to learn how to stencil your own canvas shopping bag with this design. What you need for this craft are the following:
Farmer's Market Fresh Harvest Stencil
Americana Acrylic Paint
Americana Fabric Painting Medium
Repositionable Spray Adhesive
Frog Tape Painter's Tape
Stencil Brush
Before stenciling you should prepare your project space. Start by spraying the back of your stencil with Repositionable Spray Adhesive, then set it aside for the adhesive to become tacky. Next, mix your Americana Acrylic Paint with Americana Fabric Painting Medium. Set your paint and stencil brush to the side for the next part.
Once the Repositionable Spray Adhesive become tacky, press it to the surface of your canvas tote bag. Use Frog Tape Painter's Tape around the edges of the stencil to keep your Stencil Brush from wandering outside of the design. With your stencil in place it's time to start painting the design. Swirl the excess paint off your stencil brush onto a piece of paper towel. Once the Stencil Brush feels dry to the touch you are ready to start swirling paint into the design. Lightly swirl the first light coat of paint through the opening in the stencil. It will take 3-4 coats of paint before you reach full coverage.
As you lightly shade in the stencil design you will build up your color in 3-4 coats of paint. While you are stenciling you will occasionally reach a point where paint does not seem to be coming off your stencil. When this happens you will need to swirl more paint into your Stencil Brush, then swirl the excess paint onto a paper towel until the Stencil Brush feels dry to the touch. Swirl paint through the stencil until you reach full coverage. Peel the stencil off the project and let the paint dry!
To replicate this design on multiple surfaces just reattach your stencil to your next tote bag. Press the details of the stencil down and use your Stencil Brush to swirl paint through the next stencil repeat. This stencil may be replicated on as many tote bags as you need for a full shopping trip and comes in a variety of sizes.
